Borknagar: : Century Media Records to re-issue BORKNAGAR's 'The Olden Domain' and MAYHEM's 'De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas' on vinyl

To celebrate Black (Metal) Friday, Century Media Records will re-issue two classic titles: <a href="http://www.centurymedia.com/artist.aspx?IdArtist=9">BORKNAGAR</a>'s <i>The Olden Domain</i> and MAYHEM's <i>De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas!</i> Limited to 1,000 copies each, these titles will be available only at your local independent music store starting on Friday, November 23rd. To find a participating store near you, please check out <a href="http://www.recordstoreday.com/Home">www.recordstoreday.com</a>.

<center><img src="http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/7656/mayhembork400x400.jpg"></center>

<i>The Olden Domain</i> is <b>BORKNAGAR's</b> second studio album, and their first to feature English lyrics. It also marks the beginning of the band's transition to their trademark progressive/folk/black metal sound featured on later records. This would be the band's last studio album to feature Garm (credited on this album as "Fiery G. Maelstrom") on vocals. It is also their first album to feature Kai K. Lie on bass, replacing Infernus.

Songwriting for <i>De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas</i> began as early as 1987, but due to the suicide of vocalist Per "Dead" Ohlin and murder of guitarist Øystein "Euronymous" Aarseth, the album's release was delayed until May of 1994. <i>De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas</i> is widely considered to be one of the most influential black metal albums of all time. Now available as a deluxe double LP in gatefold packaging with bonus poster, the darkness continues to bleed forth.

Borknagar: : premieres "The Earthling" video on Decibel Magazine.com

BORKNAGAR premieres "The Earthling" video on Decibel Magazine.com

In order to further promote BORKNAGAR's much acclaimed current album Urd, which was voted "album of the month" in the Germany's Metal Hammer Magazine as well as Norway's Scream Magazine upon release, a video clip for the outstanding song "The Earthling" has recently been finalized. Decibel Magazine.com proudly announces its North American premiere here:

<a href="http://www.decibelmagazine.com/featured/video-premiere-borknagar-the-earthling/">http://www.decibelmagazine.com/featured/video-premiere-borknagar-the-earthling/</a>

BORKNAGAR's mastermind Øystein G. Brun comments on the video as follows:

"The lyrical core-theme of BORKNAGAR has always been to portray the primal encounter between man and Nature, to project the poetry of Nature and to profess pondering about man's existence therein.

Over the last couple of months we have been working with Twitchy Films to produce a video for the song 'The Earthling'. Thematically, this song really grips onto the backbone of the album 'Urd' and the band in general. As with our music, we wanted to do something really unique and special- and not a typical metal video. You won't see a raging metal band in dim lights with scary effects, but rather a video that sophistically portray the beauty, magnitude and power of the Nature. Kjetil Kolbjørnsrud and David Solbjørg at Twitchy Films spent allot of time and effort to get the right shots and the perfect vibe. They spent hours and days in the Norwegian wilderness to make this video a reality. As you know, Nature is untamable. Hands down for their efforts and the great work! Enjoy, folks!"

The track-listing for Urd is as follows:

Borknagar: : "URD" NAMED "ALBUM OF THE MONTH" IN METAL HAMMER (GERMANY) AND SCREAM (NORWAY); "ASK THE BAND" SUBMISSIONS NOW AVAILABLE

BORKNAGAR'S "URD" NAMED "ALBUM OF THE MONTH" IN METAL HAMMER (GERMANY) AND SCREAM (NORWAY); "ASK THE BAND" SUBMISSIONS NOW AVAILABLE

The release of BORKNAGAR's highly anticipated new album, Urd , is only a few days away, and there has already been a massive positive media reaction towards the record! Amongst others, Germany's Metal Hammer Magazine as well as Norway's Scream Magazine have voted Urd as "Album of the Month" in their current issues.

BORKNAGAR's mastermind Oystein G. Brun has checked-in to comment about the amazing advance reactions, as well as the band status:

"Hey folks! Just wanted to give you all a brief status report from the BORK headquarters...

First off I would like to express our gratitude for all the amazing feedback we have got for the upcoming album. As earlier stated we're all very satisfied and proud of the new album, but the fact that this album would unleash such a massive and positive feedback came a bit as a surprise for all of us. 'Urd' recently won the 'album of the month' in Metal Hammer Germany, something we really didn't really expect being the 'unconventional' band we are. Also we won the 'album of the month' in Scream Magazine in Norway and it feels good to get that kind of recognition in our own territory. We have done numerous interviews the past weeks and what a joyful ride it is, the feedbacks are generally amazing and we can't do anything but smile.

As you can see the album comes in different version; standard jewelcase CD, limited digipak with two extra tracks and a vinyl version in black, green and gold. Reportedly some of these limited items are soon out of stock, so if interested to have an exclusive edition of the album, make sure to place you order ASAP.

On another note we are currently working on a project that we will reveal soon, we are really excited about it and hopefully it will grant an additional and worthy dimension to our expression...

Due to the massive and positive feedback, I would like to offer something back to all our fans: Fans can submit questions to the following mail address: <a href="mail.borknagar@gmail.com">mail.borknagar@gmail.com</a>. The 20 first questions will be answered and launched on our sites. Please headline the mail with "Fan Question". So if there is anything you are wondering about in relation to BORKNAGAR that journalists and magazines haven't been digging into - feel free to submit your question!

Take care, folks!" - Øystein / BORKNAGAR

Borknagar: : ANNOUNCES NEW DRUMMER; "URD" NOW AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER

BORKNAGAR ANNOUNCES NEW DRUMMER; "URD" NOW AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER

In the wake of the release of their upcoming album, Urd , on March 26th in Europe and in North America, Norwegian avant-garde metallers BORKNAGAR have announced a new drummer for the band's line-up. The exceptionally talented youngster Baard Kolstad is now joining BORKNAGAR as their drummer, and he will perform his first show together with the band at this year's Inferno Festival during April 4th-7th in Oslo, Norway (www.infernofestival.net). Kolstad's extreme drum abilities have been proven through several YouTube clips, TV-appearances in Norway-- and just recently, he won the world championship in V- Drums in Los Angeles.

In regards to Kolstad joining the band, BORKNAGAR's mastermind Øystein G. Brun comments: "First and foremost I would like to welcome Baard into the fold, may our journey ahead become a joy able ride. We are all very excited about Baard teaming up with the band. He has proven to be an immensely talented drummer with skills and a technique that is simply breathtaking. Our first encounter was late last year when he stepped in and recorded drums for ICS VORTEX's cover version of METALLICA's song 'Don't Tread On Me'. Since then we have kept an eye on him. When we spilt with David Kinkade a bit later on, the road ahead was obvious. We are all very much looking forward to pull off the very first gigs..."

Kolstad adds : "I'm really happy for this opportunity and the fact that I have earned the respect to play with BORKNAGAR. Really looking forward to the musical adventure that the future holds and will do my best to deal with the challenge in the most respectful and creative way. Now, I just want to play!"

BORKNAGAR LAUNCHES NEW SINGLE; NEW BAND PHOTO NOW AVAILABLE

Norwegian avantgarde metallers BORKNAGAR are now premiering their first single off their much anticipated new studio album, Urd (due out March 26th in Europe and March 27th in North America), via Decibel.com. Go check out the enthralling track "Roots" here:

BORKNAGAR's mastermind Øystein G. Brun checked in to comment about the song:

"In regards to the depth, diversity and magnitude of our new album, 'Urd', it almost feels painful to slice off just a tiny bit of the bloody roast for the very first official 'starter'. I would argue that each and every song on the new album stands on solid ground, but as usual with our music, the songs empower each other in the context of a full album.

That said, 'Roots' is probably the song on the album that gives you the most representative impression of 'Urd'. Musically it contains most of the elements that framework the musical universe of BORKNAGAR, and lyrically this song is gnawing on the very spine of our lyrical tradition. Hope you enjoy this song, the first tiny glimpse into our new opus. The beast is about to be unleashed..."

Borknagar: : REVEALS NEW ALBUM COVER ARTWORK AND TRACK-LISTING

BORKNAGAR REVEALS NEW ALBUM COVER ARTWORK AND TRACK-LISTING

Norwegian avant-garde metallers BORKNAGAR are now unveiling the cover artwork for their much anticipated new studio album, Urd, set to be released on March 26th, 2012 in Europe as well as March 27th, 2012 in North America via Century Media Records.

The album's artwork was designed by Brazilian artist Marcelo Vasco (www.P2RDESIGN.com), who has not only already worked on the band's previous Universal release, but also with artists such as SOULFLY, BELPHEGOR, EINHERJER, and KEEP OF KALESSIN.

BORKNAGAR's mastermind Øystein G. Brun comments on the artwork:

"The cover and design for 'Urd' is spot on when it comes to portraying the very core of the band. This time around we wanted an earthly expression through our cover and general design to support and empower the main themes on the album. You can almost smell and feel the texture of the old Norse wooden carvings - still there is a sophisticated and eclectic approach to the expression that entwines perfectly into the music. Marcelo Vasco enhanced our ideas into brilliance, he painted the face of the beast that is about to be unleashed..."

BORKNAGAR has recently finalized mixing duties for the album with Jens Bogren at Sweden's Fascination Street Studios (OPETH, PARADISE LOST, KATATONIA, etc.). The track-listing for the album is as follows:

BORKNAGAR Urd track-listing:

3. The Beauty Of Dead Cities
4. The Earthling
5. The Plains Of Memories
6. Mount Regency
7. Frostrite
8. The Winter Eclipse
9. In A Deeper World

The band previously explained the album title and its overall concept as follows:

"Our previous album was called 'Universal' and where should we go after an album title with such a magnitude? Well, we decided to head back home to earth. We really wanted to get back to the core of the band, where it all started - the admiration and pondering about nature and mankind's place therein. 'Urd' is the name of one of the norns that according to northern mythology stands under Yggdrasill and weaves the lifeline of mankind. 'Urd' is representing the past, while 'Verdande' is representing the present and 'Skuld' is representing the future. You might very well say that this is an ancient expression of what we today know as DNA. And I have always been very fascinated by the fact that parts and bits of our DNA actually derive from the very beginning of time. All living creatures are somewhat connected to the very first organic cell. That is some of the story behind the album title..."

BORKNAGAR COMPLETES WORK ON NEW STUDIO ALBUM; ANNOUNCES TITLE AND RELEASE DATES

BORKNAGAR photo by Asgeir Mickelson & photo-design by Marcelo Vasco

Norwegian Avant-garde metallers BORKNAGAR have finalized mixing duties for their upcoming studio album with Jens Bogren at acclaimed Fascination Street Studios (OPETH, PARADISE LOST, KATATONIA, etc.) in Sweden, and they have now checked-in to announce that the long awaited new effort will be titled Urd and is to be released on March 26th, 2012 in Europe as well as March 27th, 2012 in North America via Century Media Records.

BORKNAGAR's mastermind Øystein G. Brun has checked-in with the following message:

"Well, our new album 'Urd' was finished in mid-December and all in all we spent about 6 months to record, produce and mix it. In the 'Bork-World' this isn't really long, but I can assure you that we have never before invested so much time, energy and effort into one single production. It has been a tough, yet inspiring ride. Since June 2011 I have constantly been working with this album, recording, editing and so forth - day and night. The same goes for my comrades, never before have we made an album where everybody in the band has been so heavily involved and dedicated as this time around. 'Urd' is surely the peak of our musical journey so far and we are extremely proud to have made this giant of an album! It's massive, it's emotional, it's fast, it's slow, it's epic, and it's progressive...all the ingredients that we have crafted our musical world on! And not to mention the 'golden threesome' on vocals (Vintersorg, Mr. Vortex and Lazare) really shines on this album...Do I need to say more?!"

Furthermore, he explains the album title within the band's historical context as follows:

Borknagar: : mixing upcoming album in Fascination Street Studio!

BORKNAGAR is currently recording the next album roughly planned to be released in February 2012 through Century Media Records. The album will be mixed and mastered by Jens Bogren at famous Fascination Street Studios in Sweden in November.

Øystein G. Brun comments:
"As we speak I am currently sitting in my home studio (The Bork-tower) in Bergen recording guitars for the new BORKNAGAR album. I have been working 24/7 the last weeks to get out the very best of my abilities and polish all riffs into perfection. I am so excited about this production as we have been planning to take a huge step forward in terms of production and being able to finalize our new effort with Jens at Fascination Street Studio is a perfect match. Looking back on our previous releases our major challenge has always been to materialize our highly detailed music and compromises have been done production-wise. This time around there will be no compromise and hopefully you will witness the most powerful, rich, detailed and dynamic BORKNAGAR album to date! "

More details and information will be issued soon!
